Very large image today.  Hope you don’t mind but I was so happy with the way this one turned out that I wanted to show off all of the fun details. 

This was the birthday card for my friend Joann Cooler, who turned 24 last week. I am just getting around to posting it here because I am a lazy, lazy man. Some of you might find it strange that I depicted Joann so happy during what is clearly the ending of the world. Well you have to understand that there are two kinds of people on this planet. The first kind are ostensibly normal, and do not spend much time wondering about the most efficient way to stop a zombie. The second kind sharpen their blades, oil their guns, gather together blunt objects and eagerly await the upcoming Apocalypse. Most of my friends and I fall squarely in that second category. Remember … the attackers can be stopped by removing the head or destroying the brain.

I managed to upload this to all of my different social sites and then completely forget my own damn website.  That figures.

Yes, believe it or not, I do still plan on updating this. Things have been busy at work and there have been fews days where I have come home eager to open up Photoshop and work some more. Still I had some free time tonight as well as the urge to play around with random shapes, so there you have it. The entire rationale behind tonight’s design.

If you have access to Facebook or Myspace or Tim’s basement, you’ve probably already seen this, but it is worth posting anyway if for no other reason than to celebrate another year of Tim. That’s right, Tim is 25 years old today. One quarter century of Ukrainian Fury! Remember, many banks and post offices celebrate this national holiday, so don’t be upset if you can’t get that package out or make your credit card payment. All things must wait.

As for the poster, you may be wondering what in the hell the “SukYuppies” are. Why only the greatest fake Rock Band in existence that’s what! The band (when last I left it in December) consisted of Tim on lead guitar, my sister Catherine on vocals, her boyfriend Arch on bass, and me rounding out the roster on drums. Now I’m sure in the past few months there have been stand-ins and impostors that have infiltrated SukYuppies, but come June the band is to re-unite and rock as hard as is physically possible when all of your instruments are made out of shiny plastic.

It has been a good long while since I have attempted a realistic self portrait. Or more accurately, it has been a good long while since I have been happy enough with a realistic self portrait to show it to the world. There are still problems with this illustration, and I’m sure tomorrow when I load the page I will see all the glaring errors of symmetry that I missed, but at least for one day you get realistic Pat.

I know I am incredibly far behind on content for the blog, but I have been in a bit of an art funk lately. Everything I have been turning out has been sort of mediocre. Since no one really knows exactly why artists can draw/paint/sing/dance/write as well as we do, a lot of us have a fear that one day we might wake up and suddenly not be able to do it. I think even worse would be a “Flowers for Algernon” style reversal of talents where I slowly and subtly regress back to fingerpainting. And nothing brings those fears to the front of my mind faster than two or more days in a row where I have to just shut down Photoshop and walk away because things aren’t working.

Still tonight’s sketch came out alright, and something I was working on earlier today is shaping up. Maybe I’m not completely losing my mind after all. Maybe.

If you stop by the site this weekend and things seem strange, I promise, I have every intention of making it all ok by Monday.  For bonus fun, stop  by on Monday for my excuse as to why none of it actually got done.  Good times!

For my part I am going to spend the better part of my day being incredibly skeptical and trying to avoid getting Rick Roll’d. This is an especially hard day for video game fans because just about every news website makes it their mission to bombard us with amazing news that is just too good to be true. And even if some amazing news does come out like a really cool new song for Rockband or some interesting new indie game footage ,it is hard to take it seriously on a day like this.

So take it easy and keep an eye out. You never know who’s trying to make you look like an idiot.

First off…HOORAY! Photoshop is back working the way it is supposed to. And there was much rejoicing.

Now I can finally post this design I’ve had sitting around for a week. The quote in the design is from the song “Grey in L.A.” by Loudon Wainwright III, which I absolutely love. If you have seen “Knocked Up” you may have heard the song, and if you haven’t you can click on this link and listen to it for the first time.

I feel like a complete tool starting a sentence with “Having lived in L.A. myself” so I wont, but the song makes a number of excellent points about that particular corner of Southern California. Really, sometimes, you just want a god damn cloudy day.
